Canillas de Aceituno
Canillas de Aceituno is a traditional Spanish mountain village, with whitewashed houses, charming narrow streets where the colorful flowers are hanging side by side on the house walls competing for your attention. In the city square you will find fresh spring water, running quietly and musically, for your free disposal if you wish to quench your thirst or fill a bottle for later.
The many tapas bars and several restaurants invite you to gear down and spoil yourself in a relaxed atmosphere with family or friends.
Although Canillas de Aceituno is small and charming, you will find bank, multiple grocers, butchers, tourist information, etc. And you should definitely not be surprised to meet other Europeans, as many have discovered the quality of life in this charming mountain town and moved their residence partly or permanently.
Only 22 km from Torre del Mar and the coast, you will find this beautiful mountain village that is completely untouched by tourism. The time seems to have stood still for decades and you still find people using horses and mules for transportation. The town has only 2764 inhabitants and has a charming and original Spanish atmosphere.
Canillas de Aceituno and the area is a unique opportunity to experience the ‘real’ Spain. There is a very good mountain way to this city. On the outskirts of town there is a very nice municipal pool, which includes a restaurant and bar.

National Park Sierras de Tejada, Almijara y Alhama:
Only 2 km from Canillas de Aceituno towards Sedella, you find a unique nature reserve which offers waterfalls and fire places. There are many good hiking trails in the area and the National Park is also used for rappelling. From the area around Canillas de Aceituno you can see the highest mountain in Andalucia - La Maroma and you can also from the center of the city start the ascent of this mountain - if you're in good shape.
